The Torch is THE spot in Brittany. It is the most consistent of the region in terms of surfing, catching all the western swells. It is perfectly adapted to beginners as well as experienced surfers depending on the conditions. The beach of Pors Carn, at the south part of the spot of La Torche forms a cove allowing to filter the important swells and offers powerful and hollow waves on the northern part and softer waves on the southern part.
In addition, the Bay of Audierne stretches over tens of kilometers, so it is always possible to surf quietly without worrying about the crowds in the water.
Water temperature in summer: 17°C and 21°C
Favourable winds: East / South-East / North-East
Works at all tides
La Torche is a protected and naturally preserved site. It is a place where life in summer is really enjoyable, the air is pure and well iodized. The perfect spot to take a big bite of fresh air.
For those who wish to learn surfing, you will find a multitude of surf schools as well as a horse riding school.
Bars and restaurants are located on the spot, convenient to drink a beer or eat crêpes after the session.
La Torche is “the place to be” this summer.

Surf, fresh fish, mint tea, nature, friends, party... And so goes life. The antithesis of the metro-work-sleep, like the impression of living in an inverted Sisyphus myth, when putting on and taking off the suit becomes the happiest punishment. The Commodore? Your best decision of the year, word of Moroccan camel.
Connecting two projects to make a unique experience, that's what happened when we contacted Pierre from The Commodore Hostel to organize a climbing trip to Portugal! We were planning to escape for a few days with climbing friends, and knowing Pierre for a few years and having followed the creation of his activity around an itinerant accommodation, it was quite natural that the idea of combining the two came to me! And the result was incredible! From a logistic point of view it was really ideal; a few days of turnkey escape where we are picked up at the airport and moved from climbing spot to climbing spots. The kitchen is on the spot, we can really enjoy ourselves. And there's even a shower! A real house in which we immediately feel at home and this also thanks to Pierre's welcome. In addition to this, there is the adventure side, finding places to sleep, making miles to discover new places while listening to music, the landscapes scrolling before our eyes. It's true that the idea lends itself well to surfing, but any other project can be considered in the bus. We have even renamed it: the bus of your projects! So go for it! You won't regret the experience.
The Commodore Hostel was a great discovery! The bus is very well converted and thought, we feel like in a boat ... a small cocoon! Good vibes guaranteed while onboard...music...meal and good mood are living there! Not to mention the sea view on the roof terrace! It's the best way to discover breathtaking spots and live to the rhythm of the waves. For my part I have made 2 stays aboard the COMMODORE HOSTEL. The 1st in Brittany: August 2019, 2nd in Morocco: January 2020 And for the 3rd stay, it will be Portugal !!! A trip on board the bus is highly recommended to live a great experience!
Last year I was cruising through Portugal in the little but brave Mitsubishi wagon, when I found out the Commodore bus without anchor was sailing through this country too. It has been an amazing journey traveling on this bus/boat, feeling the absolute freedom of sleeping wherever the waves were guiding us. Pierre is truly an amazing person, full of good energy and with a kind, warm heart. He has been very dedicated to constructing this beautiful bus and you can see it.. love is in the details. He can drive through the narrowest streets, he makes amazing hummus and his salads have many ingredients 🙂 I have had the feeling of coming home in the Commodore, and travelers know it's a very precious (even rare) feeling. Waking up and going to sleep with the sound of the ocean and the view through my bed window will always stay with me. As will the great surf sessions, the sunset from the terrace, the vibes, the goooood music, the food, the smiles. I recommend this to any freedom dweller and ocean friend! Thank you Pierre, till soon!
Incredible and timeless stay in Brittany. Pierre made us feel "at home" from the very beginning. I totally recommend if you need a getaway or a bachelor/girl party in particular. Also, not being an absolute fan of surfing, we took the opportunity to go rock climbing and other outdoor activities nearby! See you next Pierre!
I did a trip on the Commodore Hostel in Brittany with 7 other friends, so we had the bus full! We spent a great Weekend (4 days) and honestly it was a bit out of time. We never needed to refuel with water, electricity, or food, we lived at our own pace, far from the worries of everyday life, beach, surfing, and fresh beers! The driver is very friendly and has a great playlist! (Little tip: don't forget to ask him for his banana pancakes, it's a killer!) Anyway, if you love surfing or if you just want to discover the spirit of it, or if you just want to get off the hook for a moment of the day, go for it with your eyes closed!
An atypical and quality accommodation! This concept of bus-accommodation is ideal for a surf trip to Morocco (or elsewhere). Many thanks to Pierre for the repatriation to France from Agadir... I strongly recommend it: a good atmosphere and relaxation guaranteed.
"I had a great time in the Commodore Hostel and with its crew. Pierre and Lisa work together perfectly and they did a great job, organizing everything and taking us to some really cool surf spots. I always felt very welcomed and totally recommend The Commodore Hostel!"
"I stayed at The Commodore Hostel for about a week. I enjoyed being on the road with the bus and exploring different surf spots north of Agadir. Pierre and Lisa were very welcoming and did a great job hosting us and arranging everything around our trip. I had a fun and relaxing stay at The Commodore Hostel and with its team, fully recommend it!"
