This summer, The Commodore Hostel becomes a 

POP-UP SURF HOSTEL

The current situation has forced each of us to review our plans and adapt for the summer of 2020. From June to August, The Commodore Hostel is undergoing a metamorphosis and welcomes you to a temporary surf hostel on the iconic surf spot of La Torche, not far from Pors Carn beach. Surf trips in Brittany are still being maintained.

This summer, The Commodore Hostel offers you to discover the spot of La Torche in an autonomous and unique accommodation while giving you the opportunity to go around Brittany through some surf trips.

A PERFECT ACCOMMODATION TO ENJOY HOLIDAYS WITH FRIENDS

The Commodore Hostel has laid down ink on a plot of 4.000 m2, completely natural on the road to Pors Dibors, Plomeur, a few hundred meters from the beach of Pors Carn.

The hostel is formed of the bus with its capacity for 8 people (6 beds and one double bed), toilets, shower, equipped kitchen, and its terrace of 12 m2. In order to make the setting idyllic, outdoor facilities are built from recycled materials: garden furniture, shady area, hanging bed.

 So come and enjoy a natural setting in a pure surfing spirit.

Surfing in La Torche

The Torch is THE spot in Brittany. It is the most consistent of the region in terms of surfing, catching all the western swells. It is perfectly adapted to beginners as well as experienced surfers depending on the conditions. The beach of Pors Carn, at the south part of the spot of La Torche forms a cove allowing to filter the important swells and offers powerful and hollow waves on the northern part and softer waves on the southern part.

In addition, the Bay of Audierne stretches over tens of kilometers, so it is always possible to surf quietly without worrying about the crowds in the water.

La Torches’ vibes

La Torche is a protected and naturally preserved site. It is a place where life in summer is really enjoyable, the air is pure and well iodized. The perfect spot to take a big bite of fresh air.
For those who wish to learn surfing, you will find a multitude of surf schools as well as a horse riding school.
Bars and restaurants are located on the spot, convenient to drink a beer or eat crêpes after the session.
La Torche is “the place to be” this summer.

HOW TO GET TO THE HOSTEL? 

The Commodore Hostel - route de Pors Dibord - 20120 - Plomeur

The nearest railway station is Quimper. From the station, it is possible to reach the spot via bus lines 56A and 56B. A car will pick you up directly at the bus stop. Otherwise, it is possible to pick you up at the station. Please indicate this when you make your reservation.

By car, head towards the equestrian centre and on your right you will find the road to Pors Dibord. The Commodore Hostel will be signposted. It is possible to park for free on the grounds.

The nearest airport is Quimper. Please indicate if you would like a car to pick you up.

Brittany’s wild and rugged coastline offers a wide variety of surf spots where you’ll find great waves in every season. Some are exposed to friendly, sheltered coves and others are more exposed to the Atlantic swells, catering for all levels of surfing. You can easily find friendly beach breaks or nice point breaks and when the conditions line up, you can have a magic session in a stunning setting.

In summer, this region offers up long and smooth waves in an idyllic setting. The Commodore Hostel will take you to long beaches as well as beautiful coves giving you variety and the opportunity to surf every day.

  • Connecting two projects to make a unique experience, that's what happened when we contacted Pierre from The Commodore Hostel to organize a climbing trip to Portugal! We were planning to escape for a few days with climbing friends, and knowing Pierre for a few years and having followed the creation of his activity around an itinerant accommodation, it was quite natural that the idea of combining the two came to me! And the result was incredible! From a logistic point of view it was really ideal; a few days of turnkey escape where we are picked up at the airport and moved from climbing spot to climbing spots. The kitchen is on the spot, we can really enjoy ourselves. And there's even a shower! A real house in which we immediately feel at home and this also thanks to Pierre's welcome. In addition to this, there is the adventure side, finding places to sleep, making miles to discover new places while listening to music, the landscapes scrolling before our eyes. It's true that the idea lends itself well to surfing, but any other project can be considered in the bus. We have even renamed it: the bus of your projects! So go for it! You won't regret the experience.

Good vibes guaranteed while onboard...music...meal and good mood are living there! Not to mention the sea view on the roof terrace! It has been an amazing journey traveling on this bus/boat, feeling the absolute freedom of sleeping wherever the waves were guiding us.   • I did a trip on the Commodore Hostel in Brittany with 7 other friends, so we had the bus full! We spent a great Weekend (4 days) and honestly it was a bit out of time. We never needed to refuel with water, electricity, or food, we lived at our own pace, far from the worries of everyday life, beach, surfing, and fresh beers! The driver is very friendly and has a great playlist! (Little tip: don't forget to ask him for his banana pancakes, it's a killer!) Anyway, if you love surfing or if you just want to discover the spirit of it, or if you just want to get off the hook for a moment of the day, go for it with your eyes closed!

Indulge on their traditional crepes (complète jambon) in a classic creperie or sample the regions most popular seafood such as mussels and lobsters. Don’t forget to taste the famous cake Kouign Amann (meaning butter ‘n’ sugar). After surfing, grab a cold beer at the local bar or enjoy it from our rooftop terrace on the bus. Once onboard The Commodore Hostel you are part of the family.  It means that everyone gets involved in the bus life. Whether that be storing the surf boards, cooking lunch or dinner, washing up or shopping in the market. 

 

About the bus:

The dorm can sleep 8 guests: 6 single and 1 double bed

The bus is full equipped which gives us total freedom to travel where ever our guests want.  We have a kitchen, lounge/ seating area, a solar and indoor shower, a compost toilet, solar panels and a rooftop terrace.

 

Departure:

We offer pick up from Quimper railway station. If your arrival destination is outside of town, please email us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Included:

  • Pick up and drop off from airport, train or bus station
  • Breakfast (Oats, eggs or crepes with bread, jams, and tea and coffee) served at a time our guests agree on.
  • Sheets, duvet and pillow
  • Use of all facilities: toilet, shower (indoor and outdoor), lounge area and kitchen
  • Amenities: BBQ, skateboard, books, use of the sound system, games, bike, fishing gear, and lots of outdoor games like Spikeball.

  • Surf boards. They can be rented on a daily or weekly basis from surf rental stores along the coast. Choose the style of board that suits you best or try a new style. Only soft boards can be rented from the hostel.
